Frequently Asked Questions
-
How long does the therapy appointment and treatment last? The initial evaluation will be at least 1 1/2 hours. It will include the evaluation, a discussion on findings, initial treatment and a home exercise program. The follow up treatment visits will last be 45 - 60mins depending on the complexity of the case.
-
Can I drop my dog off and pick him up later? No, unfortunately we don't have the facilities to have a drop off service. We do encourage owners to stay and observe the treatment session. We often find the patient is able to relax and will participate better with the exercise program. Plus the owner can learn how to do the exercises at home.

How do I go about getting Canine Rehab services for my dog ?1. Visit your veterinarian first. I am not a veterinarian. So be sure to start with a visit to your veterinarian for an evaluation to determine if there are any medical concerns that need to be addressed prior to starting physical therapy. 2. Obtain a Signed Vet Referral Form. Request that your veterinarian sign the Vet Referral Form provided on this Web site. Download and print it out now, and be sure to take it with you to your dog's appointment. For the safety of your dog, Louisiana recommends that a canine rehabilitation therapist receive a written referral from a licensed veterinarian prior to evaluating and treating any dog. If your vet has any questions or concerns regarding physical therapy for your dog, I am happy to speak with him or her at any time. 3. Call to set up an appointment. Once you have obtained a signed Vet Referral Form, call or e-mail me, and we will set up an appointment at your convenience. 4. Fill in the Client Registration Form. Please download, print and fill out our Client Registration Form. At our first appointment, I will review both your completed Client Referral Form and the Vet Referral Form with you in order to obtain a clear and comprehensive understanding of your dog's current and past health history.

My veterinarian has referred my dog to Well Paws K9 Rehab; what do I do now?Your vet should complete the referral form and attach the relevant information for us to then contact them for more information before contacting you to schedule an evaluation. However, we’d love to hear from you also, as the owner, you may have additional information to give us a better understanding of your pet’s situation. Just tell us on the client registration form who will be referring your dog so we can link the information we receive.
-
Do I bring treats or food to the appointment?Yes, especially if you have a treat that your dog will do absolutely anything for. We often use food treats to lure or shape patients to help perform the necessary rehab exercises for a successful treatment. Be sure to let us know if your dog is on a special diet or has food allergies so we can adapt the treatment session.
